Student Intervention Team
The Student Intervention Team (SIT) is a program part of PPS student support services which meets to discuss needs of specific students and implements a tiered approach to student supports. The team is comprised of relevant staff at the school that have perspectives on how to support the concern raised for each student. Schools can have different staff on their student intervention teams depending on the needs of the school and the staffing available.
The SIT team addresses behavioral and academic concerns, and often will conduct their own evaluation in addition to a SPED/504 evaluation to see if other forms of support outside an IEP or 504 would be more beneficial to the student. Meetings with the SIT team occur simultaneously with IEP or 504 team meetings.
The Student Intervention Team creates academic and behavioral intervention plans that address a student's problems using the "Multiple Tiered Systems of Support" (MTSS) framework. This framework begins with Tier I supports, which are wide general supports available to all students in the classroom. Tier II supports provide small-group support for behavioral and academic issues. Tier III supports are for individual students that need specialized help beyond what can be offered to a larger group.
The SIT can write and implement an intervention plan on multiple tiers depending on the needs of a student, determine that the student would be better helped by special education or a 504, or implement some MTSS supports in conjunction with services offered through an IEP/504.
