Outside Mental Health Resources

While PPS offers certain mental health supports and suicide prevention protocols for students, other outside resources can also be helpful as an additional mode of support for students and parents. The following organizations are not associated or affiliated with PPS, though some are recommended by the district as a form of support.

Emergency Resources

24/7 Emergency resource, helpful for a variety of mental health issues and can serve as a starting point for seeking further help.

Local 24/7 crisis hotline with resources in the greater Portland area, including information on inpatient/outpatient help and assessment.

Hotline specializing in suicide prevention and mental health support for LGBTQ+ youth.

Portland-based peer to peer hotline for youth and teens, addressing crisis and non crisis situations. Open 4-10pm PST daily. Translation services available.

Peer to peer hotline for youth and teens, addressing all mental health and crisis situations. Also offers text and email services. Open 6-9pm PST.

National Resources

Organization dedicated to supporting individuals and loved ones of those with mental illness. Operates a text and phone hotline, and provides a wealth of informational resources about mental illness, intervention, and treatment.

Organization dedicated to education and intervention on eating disorders, including a free hotline and a guide to finding treatment for the eating disorder.

Service for domestic violence support and education, including phone, text, and email lines. Also posts informational resources on domestic violence.

Local Resources

Comprehensive guide from Portland Public Schools to local crisis and non-crisis situations.

Nonprofit helping children and young adults facing housing and economic insecurity, including a drop-in center for basic needs, education and employment support, and culturally specific services.

LGBTQ+ Resources

National

Resources for transgender and genderqueer/questioning individuals, including resource libraries for financial, medical, and bureaucratic support, as well as a hotline operating 10AM-6PM PST, staffed by trans and non-binary operators. Offers both emergency and non emergency services.
